Type a tool name, for example "keyword density" or "transcript".
Type in English using the phonetic keyboard mapping below, and see it converted to Urdu in real-time. Press Ctrl+Space to switch between Urdu and English.

Type the English key on the left to produce the corresponding Urdu character on the right.
This Urdu typing online tool turns English letters into Urdu script as you type. It uses a phonetic keyboard, so each Latin key maps to an Urdu letter and the text appears right to left in real time. It is built for students, writers and marketers who need Urdu text they can copy or download.
Phonetic Urdu typing means pressing the English key that sounds closest to the Urdu letter you want. Press k and you get ک, press p and you get پ. You do not need an Urdu keyboard layout installed on your laptop.
Urdu is written right to left, and letters change shape depending on where they sit in a word. The editor handles the direction, and the letters join as you type. Urdu also leaves out most short vowels (zabar, zer, pesh), so you type the consonants and the long vowels. That is the habit that trips up most beginners, and the worked example below shows it.
This is a keystroke-to-letter converter. It does not translate English into Urdu and it does not check spelling. If you type the English word "water", you get Urdu letters that spell those sounds, not the word پانی. You supply the Urdu spelling, and the tool supplies the script.
You can start typing in under a minute. Follow these steps:
The easiest way to learn the keys is to type real words. Here is what happens with four everyday ones, using the mapping on the page.
| You type | You get | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| ktab | کتاب | book |
| pani | پانی | water |
| slam | سلام | greeting |
| xkrio | شکریہ | thank you |
Take the first row. The keys k, t, a, b map to ک, ت, ا, ب, which joins into کتاب. A common beginner attempt is "kitab". That produces کیتاب, because i maps to ی, and a real Urdu spelling does not write that short vowel. The fix is to drop it and type "ktab".
In the last row, x is ش, k is ک, r is ر, i is ی and o is ہ. Notice that the final letter is ہ, which comes from the o key, not the h key.
Lowercase keys give the common letters, and capital letters give the heavier or less frequent variants. Learn these pairs and you will cover most of the alphabet:
The a key gives ا, i gives ی, y gives the final ے and w gives و. The o key gives the round ہ, while h gives ھ, the mark that makes aspirated sounds. To write بھ, type b and then h. A few letters sit on single capitals: H is ح, J is ض, V is ظ, and v is ط. The e key gives ع and the u key gives ء.
A good result reads right to left, with letters joined in connected groups and no stray Latin characters. If something looks off, it is usually one of a few cases.
It suits anyone who needs Urdu script quickly without installing a keyboard. Typical situations include:
When your Urdu text is a list, such as keywords or product names, tidy it afterward with a duplicate line remover or a duplicate word remover. To add a bullet or label to each line, use the prefix and suffix adder.
Say the word aloud, then type its consonants and long vowels in order. If you know the spelling from reading, follow the letters you remember rather than the pronunciation.
Type a sentence, glance at it, then continue. Fixing a wrong capital in one word is easier than scanning a whole paragraph.
Press Ctrl+Space to type English words, brand names or Latin numerals, then press it again to return to Urdu. This keeps mixed-language text clean.
If you revise a long Urdu draft, save a copy with Download as Text first. You can then compare the two versions with a diff checker to see exactly what changed.
Have a fluent reader review anything public, such as a headline or an ad. Letter pairs that look alike are easy to confuse, and a single wrong dot can change the word.
The tool converts keystrokes into letters and nothing more. It does not suggest words, correct spelling, translate or add diacritics automatically. Stress marks and short vowels are placed only if you click them from the Virtual Keyboard.
It is also not a timed typing test, so it will not give you a speed or accuracy score. You can still use it for practice, because the live mapping shows you at once whether you pressed the right key. Typing on a phone works through the page too, since you can tap the on-screen Urdu characters.
