An HTML editor online lets you write or paste HTML and see how it renders while you type. This free tool gives you an HTML source box, a live preview, and two buttons to copy or download your finished markup. It suits beginners, bloggers, marketers, and developers who need a fast way to test a snippet.
An HTML editor is a program for writing and changing HTML, the markup language that tells a browser what each part of a page is. Tags such as <h1>, <p>, <ul>, and <a> label headings, paragraphs, lists, and links.
HTML5 is the current version of the standard. It added meaningful elements such as <article>, <nav>, and <section>, which help browsers, screen readers, and search engines understand your page.
A WYSIWYG editor hides the markup behind formatting buttons. A code editor shows the markup itself. This page is a code editor with a live preview: you type in the HTML source box, and the preview redraws with every change. There are no toolbar buttons or drag-and-drop blocks, so you stay in full control of every tag.
You can edit and preview HTML in a few steps, with nothing to install and no account to create.
There is no separate run button. The preview is always current, which makes small experiments quick.
Suppose a colleague sends you this banner code and asks you to make the deadline stand out. You paste it into the HTML source box:
<h2>Spring Sale</h2><p>Ends Friday</p><ul><li>Free shipping</li><li>Easy returns</li></ul>
The preview shows a large heading, one plain line, and a bulleted list. To highlight the deadline, change the second element to <p style="color:#b00020;font-weight:bold">Ends Friday</p>. The preview now shows the deadline in bold dark red.
Notice what happened: you changed one attribute, saw the result immediately, and did not have to publish anything to check it. When it looks right, click Copy HTML and paste the final code into your page or email builder.
The preview shows structure and inline styling accurately, but it blocks anything that needs scripts or the network. The editor tells you this directly: scripts and network requests are disabled in the preview. Use this guide to know what to expect.
| What you write | In the preview | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Headings, paragraphs, lists, links, tables | Displayed normally | Use it to check structure |
| Inline styles and style blocks | Applied | Keep CSS inside the snippet |
| Images from a web address | Not loaded | Use an embedded image or test live |
| Scripts, external stylesheets, fonts | Blocked | Test them on your real site |
If your headings, lists, and paragraphs appear in the order you intended, the structure is sound. If text runs together, a closing tag is probably missing. If a whole section turns bold, italic, or becomes a link, an element was left open. If the layout looks plain, that is normal: without CSS, browsers use default styles.
This tool fits any job where you need to read, change, or test markup without opening a full development setup.
You can edit an HTML file by copying its contents into the HTML source box, changing the markup, and downloading the result. This works the same on any device with a modern browser, which is handy when you cannot install an editor.
The tool does not open files from your device, so the copy-and-paste step is required. When you finish, Download HTML saves a new file called document.html. Replace the old file with it, or compare the two before you upload.
Use one <h1> for the page topic, then <h2> and <h3> in order. Use real lists for lists and real tables for tabular data. Add descriptive alt text to every image. Clear structure helps readers, screen readers, and search engines, and Google's Search Central documentation recommends descriptive alt text and sensible headings.
When the markup is final, remove extra whitespace and comments with the HTML Minifier to reduce file size. If you only need the readable text from a block of markup, the Strip HTML Tags tool removes the tags for you. Building a data table by hand is slow, so the HTML Table Generator can create the table code, which you can then paste here to preview.
This editor is built for quick editing and previewing, not for building whole websites. It has no toolbar for formatting, no multi-file projects, no code autocomplete, and no saved history, so copy or download your work before you close the page.
The preview deliberately blocks scripts and network requests. Interactive features, tracking code, web fonts, and remote images will not run or load here. A page can therefore look different in the preview than on your live site. Treat the preview as a check of structure, text, and inline styling, then test the final page in a real browser.
If you prefer writing in Markdown, convert it first with the Markdown to HTML Converter and paste the output into the editor for a final polish. You can find more utilities like this in the Web Developer Tools collection.
Paste your markup into the HTML source box above, make your changes, and watch the preview confirm them. When it looks right, click Copy HTML or Download HTML and take your clean code straight to your site, your CMS, or your email builder.
