Larger totals, such as total days or hours, use a straight count of elapsed time, so leap days are included automatically. That is why a person who is 35 has lived more than 35 times 365 days.

Suppose you enter March 15, 1990 and today is June 20, 2025. The tool returns an age of 35 years, 3 months and 5 days. Your results change every day, so the numbers you see on the page will reflect the current date.

• Next birthday: March 15, 2026, which is 268 days away.
• Total months: 423 (35 years times 12, plus 3).
• Total days: about 12,881. That is 35 years of 365 days (12,775) plus 9 leap days (1992 through 2024), plus 97 days from March 15 to June 20.
• Total weeks: 1,840, because 12,881 divided by 7 is 1,840 with a few days left over.

How Do You Calculate Age From Date of Birth Manually or in Excel?

To calculate age by hand, subtract the birth year from the current year, then subtract one if your birthday has not happened yet this year. For months and days, count forward from your last birthday to today.

Most surprising results come from the date that was entered, not the calculation. Check these points first.

• Day and month swapped: 04/05/1990 means April 5 in the US but May 4 in many other countries. Use the date picker to avoid confusion, and check the "born on" line in the results to confirm the date was read correctly.
• Age looks one year off: your birthday probably has not happened yet this year. Compare the Next Birthday date with what you expected.
• Nothing happens or an error appears: the Date of Birth field is empty or the date is not valid. Enter a full date with day, month and year.

• Born on February 29: confirm the next birthday date against the convention your organization uses, since some count February 28 and others March 1 in non-leap years.

Limitations and Accuracy Notes

The calculator measures your age against the current date, so it does not offer a choice of past or future date. Hours, minutes and seconds are based on elapsed time from midnight at the start of your birth date, since the tool does not ask for a time of birth.
